Overview
A 5-day field trip to the Murray Basin will examine salinity
science and management in the context of broader environmental
(climate change and water balance) and societal issues. Field
stops will look at examples of how scientists, natural resource
managers and community groups are working within broader policy
and management frameworks to tackle the issues of dryland, soil,
and irrigation salinity, and the threats posed to river and
wetlands health and biodiversity. The trip will also examine
innovative plant-based and engineering strategies to mitigate
salinity and preserve fragile ecosystems. This trip will
commence in the Victorian uplands and follow the Murray River to
its outlet.
